Hire Me, Jimmy Fallon!
Lex Friedman's quest to get a job writing for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

About

I’m Lex Friedman.

I’m 28 and live in Marlboro, New Jersey with my wife and two young daughters. I have a personal blog called Lex, Briefly.

Although I’m gainfully employed as an Internet professional, my first interest has always been comedy. I’ve done improv comedy at various places, none more satisfying than various courses at the Groundlings school in Los Angeles. After spending more than a year on the waiting list for Level 4 at the Groundlings school, I (along with my then-pregnant wife) decided to move here to Jersey. The day after we got here, the Groundlings school called to say that I was finally eligible to take the class.

Knowing I couldn’t take the class any time soon, given the thousands of miles separating me from it, was hard. Comedy greats like Jon Lovitz, Phil Hartman, Pee Wee Herman, Cheri Oteri, Kristen Wiig, and Jimmy Fallon himself all went through the Groundlings school. I had sincerely hoped to make it to the Groundlings main stage, but it was always a long shot. “Dropping out” before I had the chance to make it — or not — sucked. I resolved not to give up on comedy as a career, even though my first choice on how to get started was now being abandoned.

Now, I’ve created Hire Me, Jimmy Fallon! as a 2009 equivalent to a similar effort I made with Jay Leno years ago. My goal is to do comedy for a living, whether it’s writing, performing, or somewhere in-between.

I recognize that it’s a long shot Jimmy would ever notice this blog, let alone think I’m funny. And even if he thinks I’m funny, that’s no guarantee he’ll want to give me a job. But I’m certain a long shot is better than no shot at all!
